An independent bottler voluntarily recalled certain sugar-free 7Up sodas after thousands of cans labeled "Zero Sugar" were found to mistakenly contain a "full sugar product," according to a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) notice.

Buffalo Rock Company Inc., a Birmingham, Alabama-based bottler, issued the recall for more than 20,000 aluminum cans of 7Up Zero Sugar Tropical Soda on July 31, according to the notice.

The soda was distributed in Alabama, Florida and Georgia, the notice says.

USA TODAY contacted Keurig Dr Pepper, the owner of the 7Up brand and formula, as well as PepsiCo, the soda's international distributor, on Saturday, Aug. 23, but has not received a response.

Which 7Up was recalled?

According to the FDA notice, 1,954 cases of 12-pack 7Up Zero Sugar Tropical Soda, which are in 12 fluid-ounce cans, were recalled. The total number of cans affected by the recall is 23,448.

The UPC on the cans is 078000037975, and the UPC on the cardboard carton containing the soda is 078000037982.

What should consumers do with recalled 7Up?

The recall notice does not explain what consumers should do if they purchased or own the recalled 7Up. The FDA suggests that for most recalled products, consumers should check the recall notice for specific instructions, stop using the product and then either return or properly dispose of the item.
